Flooring - Flooring Questions
1.20 Does anybody sell recovered hardwood flooring from the 1920's?

Q. I would like to match our kitchen flooring with the rest of the hardwood flooring in our new home. The house was built in 1928. I thought that perhaps some business may recover wood flooring from other houses in the same era and then resell it. Anyone know any companies?

A. Hun i aint recovered it is called refinished. And when you find it look to pay a ton of $$$$$$$

1.20 Will vinyl flooring adhere to laminate flooring?

Q. I want to buy 12" x 12" vinyl flooring and place it on top of a laminate flooring that is currently there. The installation for the vinyl flooring is "peel and stick". Will the vinyl flooring adhere to the laminate flooring ok? Is any additional adhesive needed? Thanks in advance :)

A. It may stick but it won t last. The movement in laminate will cause the laminate seams to telescope thru and show and eventually crack the vinyl. Laminate is so easy to take up and save . GL

1.20 What flooring is the most attractive, practical, functional and pet-proof for a bedroom?

Q. I just got a new home with carpeting in the bedrooms. My dogs do sometimes have accidents, so I want to replace the flooring with something else.

A. Laminate wood flooring with throw rugs.

1.20 Is putting in laminate wood flooring really as easy as they make it seem?

Q. I am moving into my first house next week and I am doing the laminate flooring myself....can anyone tell me if they have done it an how easy or hard it actually was? Also, do you know if I can just put the pad and laminate flooring on top of the kitchen flooring that is already there? Thanks for your help in advance!

A. Make sure the particular flooring you are getting needs no other supplies..some requires a simple underlayment(fabric type sheeting)..and some require you buy these foam rubber gasket type items that the baseboard needs pulled and they have to tuck under it to help lock in without moving..Just make sure before purchasing..that you are aware of what all is needed..Remember..most of these floorings need to have the base board removed to install properly

1.20 Company that sells flooring that I can install myself for under a $1 a square foot and has a nice design?

Q. Please include company name with phone number if possible and id really appreciate it if you can tell me the type of flooring or a picture of it.

A. Try this link good luck!

1.20 How can I make wood flooring with different colors and gains look the same?

Q. I am looking for a cheap flooring job in a room in my house, and it has to be wooden floors. I am friends with a guy that is a flooring contractor and he gets to keep all extra pieces that do not fit in the house. So he has all of the flooring that I need, they all fit each other, but not all of them have the same texture/gain and color. Is there any way to get them all to be the same? I was thinking that I would be able to sand them down and maybe stain them, but I'm not too sure.

A. Probably not. All woods accept stains differently. The only way to have uniformity with differing species and grains is paint.

1.20 How long do you have to leave concrete floors to dry before laying hardwood flooring in a new house?

Q. We are considering laying hardwood flooring in the living/dining room of our new house. The floor is concrete and we have been told we need to wait for a period of time before laying wood flooring. The time period varies with who we ask, but we've been told anything from 3 months to 2 years! Does anyone have any direct experience of this? Is it a load of rubbish or is it genuine?

A. Would have thought that after a week or so when the concrete was set it would be ok to lay flooring. Maybe the flooring contractors are trying to put you off until they can fit in the job!!

1.20 What type of flooring can be installed over a heated floor in the basement?

Q. I read about the electrically heated strips that can be installed on the concrete floor. What types of flooring can be used with this type of heating?

A. Most hardwoods are suitable, ceramic tile, carpet, and some laminates. its always a good idea to check with experts.

Santa Monica Flooring

Flooring There are more types of flooring than ever before - wood, vinyl, stone, and laminates. Not all kinds of flooring are ideal for all rooms in the house. Before you decide on the choice of flooring, look into the room itself. For instance, flooring for the bathroom has to be water proof, as well as easy to clean. It also has to be a non slip material like tile. Bedroom tiles on the other hand, have less of a traffic problem, so you might see less wear and tear in these rooms. Also, give aesthetics priority. Wood floors or any other neutral flooring that can blend into changes in décor are the perfect choice. For your stairs, ceramic tiles or wood parquet provide an eye pleasing look, but are still strong enough to handle heavy use. Flooring in rooms that are on grade level or below grade level will have excessive moisture on the surfaces that will need to be considered before settling on a flooring material. Your flooring contractor should be able to tell you whether the material is ideal for use. Also, consider the economics and cost of maintenance of your new flooring. This includes the need for re-décor of your house to match your new floor.

Unless you have exemplary DIY skills and can de code every last word of the manufacturers' instruction manual, you are better off hiring a floor contractor for your flooring installation. A reputed and experienced flooring contractor will have the experience necessary to install the floor perfectly with no room for error, leaving you with a smooth well laid out and beautiful floor. He will also save you repair expenses on flooring badly installed by a handy man. To find experienced floor tile companies in Santa Monica, fill out the form on this page, and our flooring installer search system will connect you with up to 4 flooring installers in Santa Monica.
